I also had to increase my Cache-limit and did not find the error messages helpful. Warning messages when running apt/aptitude on the cache size reaching Cache-limit would be helpful, as well as the suggestion to increase the Cache-limit when apt/aptitude fails due to Cache-limit being too small.
