Package: mythtv-backend Version: 0.20.2-0.2 Severity: normal I recently tripped over a bug identical to the one described in the following thread: http://www.mailinglistarchive.com/mythtv-dev%40mythtv.org/msg01009.html
I can confirm that, as Gervase Markham suspected, it has to do with giving the wrong IP address to mythtv-setup. In my case, the problem turned out to be that I'd typed "192.168.123" instead of "192.168.2.123" as my IP address. Could I suggest that the "host address backend setup" page (the first page in the "general" series in mythtv-setup) is redesigned so that: a) A checkbox marked "this computer is the master server" goes before the master server options, and is ticked by default. When this is ticked, the master server options are hidden. b) When the user clicks "next" from this menu, both IP addresses are checked to see if they're valid numeric addresses (or that gethostbyname() returns a non-null value if host names are allowed). If not, a message is displayed saying "<invalid address> is not a valid IP address. Are you sure you want to use it?". Although neither of these changes would make the problems we encountered impossible, it would make it harder to blunder into them without thinking. - Andrew Sayers -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-1-k7 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_GB, LC_CTYPE=en_GB (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages mythtv-backend depends on: ii cron 3.0pl1-100 management of regular background p ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.14 Debian configuration management sy ii libartsc0 1.5.7-2 aRts sound system C support librar ii libasound2 1.0.14a-2 ALSA library ii libavc1394-0 0.5.3-1+b1 control IEEE 1394 audio/video devi ii libc6 2.6.1-1+b1 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libfreetype6 2.3.5-1+b1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgcc1 1:4.2.1-4 GCC support library ii libgl1-mesa-glx [libgl1] 7.0.1-2 A free implementation of the OpenG ii libglib2.0-0 2.14.0-2 The GLib library of C routines ii libglu1-mesa [libglu1] 7.0.1-2 The OpenGL utility library (GLU) ii libiec61883-0 1.1.0-2 an partial implementation of IEC 6 ii libjack0.100.0-0 0.103.0-6 JACK Audio Connection Kit (librari ii liblame0 3.97-0.0 LAME Ain't an MP3 Encoder ii libmyth-0.20.2 0.20.2-0.2 Common library code for MythTV and ii libqt3-mt 3:3.3.7-8 Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libraw1394-8 1.2.1-3.1 library for direct access to IEEE ii libstdc++6 4.2.1-4 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 2:1.0.3-7 X11 client-side library ii libxext6 1:1.0.3-2 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxinerama1 1:1.0.2-1 X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxmu6 1:1.0.3-1 X11 miscellaneous utility library ii libxrandr2 2:1.2.2-1 X11 RandR extension library ii libxv1 1:1.0.3-1 X11 Video extension library ii libxvmc1 1:1.0.4-2 X11 Video extension library ii libxxf86vm1 1:1.0.1-2 X11 XFree86 video mode extension l ii mythtv-common 0.20.2-0.2 A personal video recorder applicat ii transcode 2:1.0.4-0.0 Utility to encode raw video/audio ii wget 1.10.2-3 retrieves files from the web Versions of packages mythtv-backend recommends: ii logrotate 3.7.1-3 Log rotation utility ii mythtv-database 0.20.2-0.2 A personal video recorder applicat ii xmltv-util 0.5.48-1 Utilities related to the XMLTV fil -- debconf information: * mythtv/run_setup: * mythtv/create_v4l_devs: true -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
