Package: galeon Version: 2.0.2-4 Severity: minor
Click on a URL to a shell script, e.g.: http://www.madore.org/~david/programs/selfrep/selfrep2.5.sh ...up pops an error message: It is not possible to view this file directly in the browser. You can save it instead. ...which makes a simple thing seem impossible. A shell script is text, and it is possible for the browser to view it. We should be careful to make a distinction between the file itself, (its data), and its mime type. Galeon can view the file data, since it's just data -- but Galeon can't view the data of a file with an unknown mime type. In comparison, Iceape (~=Mozilla) prints: The file "selfrep2.5.sh" is of a type text/x-sh, and Iceape does not how to handle this file type. This file is located at: http://www.madore.org What should Iceape do with this file? {etc.} ...and Iceweasel (~=Firefox) prints: You have chosen to open selfrep2.5.sh which is a: SH file from: http://www.madore.org What should Iceweasel do with this file? {etc.} Both have better text than Galeon's. Possible fixes: 1) Print Iceape's message. 2) Call 'file' or some text file checker; if it's a text file then print the Iceape message, but offer an option to show it in the browser as plain text.
