reassign 442508 linux-image-2.6.18-5-amd64
quit

I'm going to reassign this to linux-image. The basic problem seems to be the loss of responsiveness, which is probably caused by excessive amounts of large block size IO on the encrypted volume. There's a possible issue with the OOM killer. And there's the possibility that there was a very odd dd command line in effect (e.g., a really huge block size causing dd to attempt to create a huge buffer). At any rate, there's nothing especially unique in dd that would "demolish" a computer.
