Hello,

what was your exact command line?  ept-cache has many subcommands, and
they have different sets of options.  The manpage says:

  Every one of the commands listed above has its own set of options.
  To keep  this  manpage  readable,  all the options are presented
  together.  Please refer to "ept-cache help  command"  to see  which
  options  are accepted by a given command.

It may be that you tried to use --quiet in an option for which it did
not make any sense.
