One of the Workrave developers responded to your suggestion by pointing out
the "Break prompting" feature which is already in workave.

Try enabling it in the preferences and there will be a small window warning
you (w/o interrupting your typing) of the upcoming break but giving you 20
seconds to finish typing/mousing.

Does that meet your needs?

You need a rest break...

Hi Francois,

Workrave's default behavior is break prompting is enabled. Break prompting
"interrupts" the user, but should not interrupt the user's input. It's a
warning popup with its frame sometimes flashing, alerting the user to the
coming break. For a rest break you should see a popup that says:
You need a rest break...

With a timebar countdown like:
Disappears in 0:22..0:21..0:20... etc.

The popup should not be in focus. Also, the there is an avoid pointer feature
so that if you move your mouse over the popup, the popup moves to the top or
bottom of the screen, to get out of your way.

If there is no activity for 3? seconds I think, Workrave assumes that is a good
time to break. However if there is activity, the popup eventually times out and
the break is postponed.

If maximum number of break prompts is set to 1, there is no postponement -- the
user is warned that break time is near and then the break starts. If break
prompting is disabled, there is no warning, the break starts.

At least that's how it should work. It's possible there is a bug, his
preferences are modified, or maybe I misunderstand. If you prefer, I can e-mail
his gmail address.

Thanks,

Ray
