OK, now I'm lost. I purged and reinstalled this package and it worked alright. Even after repeating that after having removed the firmware, it went through with the downloading and cutting as expected. However, I know that I purged and installed bcm43xx-fwcutter, among others, in between. Synaptic's logs won't let me lie. As far as I'm concerned, this can be closed (in case I failed to do that, as sometimes happens).
