I suspect when you installed python-setuptools /var/lib/dpkg/info/python-setuptools.postinst output the warning:
INFO: using unsupported version '/usr/bin/python2.5' This message comes from pycentral. To make python-setuptools work with 2.5 I moved python2.5 from unsupported-versions to supported-versions in the file /usr/share/python/debian_defaults and reinstalled python-setuptools.
