Right, doing this: aptitude purge xpdf-common xpdf-korean xpdf-chinese-simplified xpdf-chinese-traditional xpdf-japanese removed /etc/xpdf and now evince doesn't protest anymore. Thanks, and sorry for the dupe, Xav
