Just removing the "enable pcmcia" line from /etc/discover-v1.conf should be enough.
On my Debian 2.6.18-4-486, discover1 was installed by default (not discover), but the config file is simply /etc/discover.conf. But, just commenting the line was insufficient; I had to change it to an explicit disable pcmcia -- that fixed the problem for me.
