Package: clamav-milter
Version: 0.91.2-1
Severity: normal

Occasionally, my mail server's logs will fill with messages like

  Aug 28 17:26:21 seamus postfix/smtpd[12708]: warning: milter
  unix:/var/run/clamav/clamav-milter.ctl: can't read SMFIC_MAIL
reply packet header: Connection timed out

On inspection, the clamav-milter process will still be running:

  clamav 27894 0.0 12.2 282092 62404 ? Ssl Aug22 6:00
  /usr/sbin/clamav-milter --max-children=2 -olq --pidfile
  /var/run/clamav/clamav-milter.pid
  local:/var/spool/postfix/var/run/clamav/clamav-milter.ctl

Restarting it, however, fixes the problem.

Next time this happens, I'll attach strace. This bug just for
posterity.
