I am the author of the current default artwork used in Debian Etch. Particularly I think that we don't have to modify the wallpaper for the 4.0r1. Perhaps a bit of changes, like shadows... This intervenes with the visual identity that we obtain for the Etch (colors, curves, etc). I think that in briefing we can start a new contest for the new visual identity of the Lenny. Where the artists will be able to send suggestions not only to wallpaper, but colors and themes for all desktops environments. While this, you can use the DebianArt[1] site for publish your work and improve this (adding splash screens, suggestions of themes and screenshots). So, the community can vote in your work and give suggestions to you.
