Ever since moving to gnome-2.18 in testing, the debian menu has been flaky.
First it didn't show up at all.
I used System->preferences->main menu to add it back. I don't get the
Applications under the debian menu.
What shows up in the menu doesn't correspond to what is set in
preferences-->main menu. When I check/uncheck the debian menu
in preferences->main menu, it will become unchecked/checked right before my
eyes. Basically menu-xdg and
gnome preferences main menu do not play nice together at all.
