I attempted to downgrad e2fslibs-dev, e2fslibs and e2fsprogs to both
1.40-1 and 1.40.1-1 and still experienced this problem.
It wasn't until I downgraded things to 1.39+1.40-WIP-2007.04.07+dfsg-2
that the compile managed to succeed.
