I'm not sure I understand the problem here, sorry. Could you provide
me with a log of a problematic build?

The problem is that indeed, debian/patches is prefered to ../patches
because of the DEB_PATCHDIRS variable in patchsys-quilt.mk. At least,
I thought it was the case.
