Besides, do all the other dpkg-related tools work properly on them? If not, I will ignore the issue, if they do work it's probably a good idea to support them in any case, just for consistency. But if you can check that it's actually a policy violation (lazy guy writing here) it would be a different story. Thanks for this bugreport!
