Could you test different encryptions with your home wireless router and tell me the results? - Try unencrypted (with and without essid broadcasting) - wep (with and without essid broadcasting) - wpa-psk (with and without essid broadcasting) Hopefully this helps to narrow down what is going on. If you stop network-manager (/etc/init.d/network-manager stop), you can run it as root with NetworkManager --no-daemon, to get useful output on stdout.
