Package: dpkg
Version: 1.10.27

Hello,

I am trying to find out what the codes mean in the output which I cannot find documentation on at present..

I did dpkg -l |less

and I get these headings

Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Installed/Config-files/Unpacked/Failed-config/Half-installed
|/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name Version Description
+++-==============-==============-===========================================

However, there is no expanation here or in the "man dpkg" what all the codes mean?

What does "ii" mean? and "rc"?

# dpkg -l |grep american
rc iamerican 3.1.20.0-4 An American English dictionary for ispell
rc wamerican 5-4 American English dictionary words for /usr/s

If I do this " apt-get --purge remove iamerican wamerican" should the packages still keep showing up as "rc"?

I wonder if this functionality could be documented somewhere..? Or have I missed some big chunk of documentation..?

Kind regards
JG
