Hmm. I should have written this in the report, sorry. Because it speeds up usage of hsqldb with gij (-> native code - hsqldb.jar.so - is taken instead of hsqldb.jar itself). java-gcj-compat-dev because it'a a) the standard in Debian and b) the jar.sos only really work with bytecode built by gcj or ecj.
