Package: gqview
Version: 2.0.1-1
Severity: important
Gqview is the best imaginable image viewing program; I use all the time. But
when one opens a picture in the middle of the directory and afterwards
presses the 'Page Down' key or clicks the left mouse button, in order to have
the next picture shown, gqview shows the very first image of the directory. Or
one of the first ones.
This happens when the name of the first opened file contains "non-English"
characters ("latin" characters). It also happens when the name of the file
contains just "English" characters and if any of the 'parent' directories in
the path to that file contains "non-English" characters. I identified the
following characters, but there may be more. [áàãäâéèëêíìïîóòõöôúùüûýÿñç].
They are used in spanish, portuguese and in non-english european languages.
Considering a "path" with just "non-latin" characters: when a file whose name
has just "non-latin" characters is opened, its name is highlighted in the
"File" pane. But if the file's name contains "latin" characters , there will
be no name highlighted in the "File" pane. The image beeing shown is correct,
but left-clicking it goes back to the first image not containing these
characters.
 Some messages:
Unable to convert filename to locale from UTF-8
Sequência de bytes inválida na entrada de conversão
 (gqview:3155): Pango-WARNING **: Invalid UTF-8 string passed to
pango_layout_set_text()
 My locale is pt_BR.
I am using Debian stable GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.8.1-kanotix-10 and KDE.
