On my hardware (MacBook Core Duo), the appletouch module is used for maximum functionality of the touchpad. However, this module is not loaded at boot by default - instead, the usbhid module is used, which works but doesn't support advanced features of the touchpad (scrolling, multi-button taps, etc). The appletouch module CAN be used in Debian, though creating a file in /etc/modprobe.d is necessary to make it work. On Ubuntu, appletouch is loaded by default. Could this be done in Debian as well
