Hi, I adopted the Debian gv package and am currently looking at all the
old bugs.

Do you still see the bug described?
If not did it just vanish with some new version or by some config
change?
If yes, do you have any X resource settings for window withs?
The .Xresources, .Xdefaults and .gv in your home directory would
be intresting to see in that case, at least those lines dealing
with gv.  Or if you use other means to fill your X resources, the
output of xrdb -query | grep -i 'gv\|^\*width'
