Package: python-apt Version: 0.7.2 Severity: normal In attempting to install python-apt 0.7.2 from 'testing' on a headless server, I noticed that apt wanted to pull in a huge amount of unwanted desktop packages. This is because the package 'Depends: lsb-release', which in turn 'Depends: lsb-desktop'.
This dependency should be narrowed to something more in line with what python-apt actually needs. Perhaps 'Depends: lsb-core' would be better. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable'), (90, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-4-686 Locale: LANG=en_AU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_AU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_AU.UTF-8) Versions of packages python-apt depends on: ii apt [libapt-pkg-libc6.3 0.6.46.4-0.1 Advanced front-end for dpkg ii apt-utils [libapt-inst- 0.6.46.4-0.1 APT utility programs ii libc6 2.5-9+b1 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgcc1 1:4.2-20070609-1 GCC support library ii libstdc++6 4.2-20070609-1 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii python 2.4.4-2 An interactive high-level object-o ii python-central 0.5.14 register and build utility for Pyt python-apt recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- \ "Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
