Package: icedove
Version: 1.5.0.10.dfsg1-3
Severity: important
Justification: data loss, but there is a workaround
Icedove will not read an incoming message if it placed it in a folder
containing a question mark (?). It will give an error message instead.
"The file
/home/wk/.mozilla-thunderbird/*.default/Mail/mail.lavabit-1.com/Temp??number=0
cannot be found. Please check the location and try again." The folder
names I tried were "Spam?" and "Temp?". The other information in that
message will vary depending on your username and mail host.
I have a workaround. It follows:
close icedove
$cd ~/.mozilla-thunderbird/*.default/Mail/mail.lavabit-1.com/
$mv Temp\? Temp
$mv Temp\?.msf Temp.msf
open icedove. Access mail.
After this workaround, the folder name, within Icedove, still has a "?"
in it, but it accesses the file without the "?". I don't know if this
workaround has any side effects (in fact I think it does have negative
side effects), so I recommend using it to rescue your mail, then moving
the mail to a folder without a "?", and then deleting the empty folder
with the "?".
