By using hg-buildpackage. I followed the instructions in importing the
mercurial 0.9.3-2~bpo2 Debian sources. Changelog follows. Do you want more
details to reproduce?
The problem is that the .hgtags file contains some of mercurial's own tags
(not sure why). See below.
Looks like mercurial_0.9.3.orig.tar.gz contains a .hgtags file, which
appears to confuse hg-buildpackage.
