Yes, another script is later using that file (mktemplates). Indeed the script uses the file to map language codes to language names. This is a longstanding issue, indeed: we would really need to have command-line utilities for doing this in program/scripts *from the XML file*. This is the still not achieved idea of an iso-codes-utils binary package. So, this problem has two solutions: -re-instate the iso_639.tab file -have someone writing such utility and include it in a sister package of iso-codes (or even build it along with iso-codes which would be helpful for other distros as we are iso-codes upstream Don't be sorry, Tobias: I should have seen that problem when you removed iso_639.tab but I simply forgot that one of my packages was using that file..:-)
