Package: ipw3945-modules-2.6.21-2-686 Version: 2.6.21+1.2.1-3 Severity: important
I am having connection issues with a new laptop running the ipw3945 driver. Here are the details... Debian sid on x86 HP Compaq NC6320. The wireless interface is eth2. /lib/modules/2.6.21-2-686/contrib/ipw3945.ko version=1.2.1dmpr /sbin/ipw3945d version: 1.7.22 iwlist Wireless-Tools version 29 Compatible with Wireless Extension v11 to v22. Kernel Currently compiled with Wireless Extension v22. eth2 Recommend Wireless Extension v16 or later, Currently compiled with Wireless Extension v22. eth2 Available private ioctls : set_power (8BE0) : set 1 int & get 0 get_power (8BE1) : set 0 & get 80 char set_mode (8BE2) : set 1 int & get 0 get_mode (8BE3) : set 0 & get 80 char set_preamble (8BE4) : set 1 int & get 0 get_preamble (8BE5) : set 0 & get 16 char reset (8BE7) : set 0 int & get 0 monitor (8BE6) : set 2 int & get 0 ### # ## Symptoms # ### ipw3945 associates to the wireless infrastructure using: iwconfig eth2 essid any which in turn associates with the correct ssid. I am able to obtain an IPAddress using DHCP after many DHCPREQUESTs. Network traffic does pass very slowly and frequent drops occur. Overall, I would consider wireless unusable. What is important to take away is the following: - Similar behavior running etch on different versions of the module. - Using an kubuntu live cd (7.0.4) wireless works out of the box: Details of kubuntu 7.0.4 with working module: linux-image-2.6.20-15-generic: /lib/modules/2.6.20-15-generic/kernel/ubuntu/wire filename: /lib/modules/2.6.20-15-generic/kernel/ubuntu/wireless/ipw3945/ip license: GPL author: Copyright(c) 2003-2006 Intel Corporation version: 1.2.0mp description: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945 Network Connection driver for Linux srcversion: 9B03103B15A8FE1824967C2 alias: pci:v00008086d00004227sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v00008086d00004222sv*sd*bc*sc*i* depends: ieee80211 vermagic: 2.6.20-15-generic SMP mod_unload 586 parm: antenna:select antenna (1=Main, 2=Aux, default 0 [both]) (int) parm: disable:manually disable the radio (default 0 [radio on]) (int) parm: associate:auto associate when scanning (default 0 off) (int) parm: auto_create:auto create adhoc network (default 1 on) (int) parm: led:enable led control (default 1 on) (int) parm: channel:channel to limit associate to (default 0 [ANY]) (int) parm: rtap_iface:create the rtap interface (1 - create, default 0) (in parm: mode:network mode (0=BSS,1=IBSS,2=Monitor) (int) - The current version in sid: filename: /lib/modules/2.6.21-2-686/contrib/ipw3945.ko license: GPL author: Copyright(c) 2003-2006 Intel Corporation version: 1.2.1dmpr description: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945 Network Connection driver for Linux srcversion: 1E2C60B5406C1954F0967A8 alias: pci:v00008086d00004227sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v00008086d00004222sv*sd*bc*sc*i* depends: firmware_class,ieee80211 vermagic: 2.6.21-2-686 SMP mod_unload 686 parm: antenna:select antenna (1=Main, 2=Aux, default 0 [both]) (int) parm: disable:manually disable the radio (default 0 [radio on]) (int) parm: associate:auto associate when scanning (default 0 off) (int) parm: auto_create:auto create adhoc network (default 1 on) (int) parm: led:enable led control (default 1 on) (int) parm: debug:debug output mask (int) parm: channel:channel to limit associate to (default 0 [ANY]) (int) parm: rtap_iface:create the rtap interface (1 - create, default 0) (int) parm: mode:network mode (0=BSS,1=IBSS,2=Monitor) (int) - I can correlate link drops with the following syslog messages: /var/log/syslog Jul 6 10:46:15 shakey2 kernel: ipw3945: tx cmd rate scale failed.
