Package: kate
Version: 4:3.5.7-1

In Kate there is a bug that can cause data loss and a lot of other troubles.

When you undo, save, redo and save again, the file is not being saved!!!
The "modified" flag disappears and no warning message comes out when you close
the file: it behaves exactly as the file was save, but it is not!
I found it developing with KDevelop (which uses Kate internally): often it
happens to me to undo and redo when testing the effect of some new code: it may
happen that when you compile and run, you get the old version while on screen
there is the new one (it can drive you crazy!).

Probably it has been there for a lot of version without anyone noticing it (or
simply not reporting it).
When I noticed the bug, I found that there was already a report of date
2007-04-02 but it was erroneously closed, then I added some infos to it at
2007-05-29.
The bug has been reopened and switched to "Critical" because it was present
also in "trunk" version of KDE.
Luckily at 2007-06-17 the bug has been solved (thanks to who did the work)!

If possible, please backport the patch to the Debian package of KDE 3.5.7 (it
seems to me too long to wait for the 3.5.8 version for a bug which causes data
loss).
