Package: maint-guide Version: 1.2.11 Severity: normal Hi!
Section 2.1 _Choose your program_[1] states: | * program must have a license, if possible free as according to the | Debian Free Software Guidelines. If it doesn't conform to some of | these rules but it can be distributed anyway, it could still can | be included in the `contrib' or `non-free' sections. If you are | unsure about where it should go, post the license text on | [EMAIL PROTECTED] and ask for advice. Firstoff, this includes a typo: s/could still can be/could still be/ More importantly, this statement seems to imply that works which fail to comply with the DFSG can actually be included in the contrib archive. This is misleading, since the _Debian Policy Manual_ clearly states[2] that "Every package in contrib must comply with the DFSG." I think the above quoted sentences should be changed into something like: ] * program must have a license, if possible free as according to the ] Debian Free Software Guidelines. If it doesn't conform to some of ] these rules but it can be distributed anyway, it could still be ] included in the `non-free' section. If you are unsure about where ] it should go, post the license text on [EMAIL PROTECTED] ] and ask for advice. ] ] * program should not require a package outside of the main section ] for compilation or use. If it does require any package which is ] not in main, it could still be included in the `contrib' section.
