This is an automatic notification regarding your Bug report
#305467: smbclient: Accented characters on W98SE filenames incorrectly
translated,
which was filed against the smbfs package.
...
Even after Steve did request twice for information about this bug
report, we didn't get any mor einformation than the very scarce one
sent initially.

This makes the bug impossible to investigate. Moreover, as it pertains
to the deprecated smbfs driver, I hereby close it.

Please try trproducing it with mount.cifs and report if you still
experience some encoding issues.

mount.cifs works fine, with or without iocharset=utf8, copying a file from a remote NTFS share to a local vfat file system and preserving accented characters in the file name.

Regards,

Arthur.
