i desired the same thing (sitebar through https), ran into the same problem, and here is my solution after perusing the user comments on this php reference page, http://us4.php.net/reserved.variables.
this patch is apache specific afaik, or at least i couldn't find the HTTPS variable as part of a published cgi standard anywhere on the internet. as this patch may not be portable among all web servers, i don't expect it to be applied to the official debian package, but is easy for users to apply (php being an interpreted language). and hopefully this patch is not necessary with the upcoming 3.3. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED]
