Turns out it was indeed the libdecoration problem. Upgrading libdecoration0 from 0.3.6 to 0.5.x solved the problem. The workspace switch is now horribly broken though (ctrl-alt-arrows does not work, windows on other workspaces are not visible as icons), but I guess that's another bug to report.
