This bug is not (only?) about completely unsearchable documents (those using bitmap fonts). The original problem of the submitter is with virtual fonts that generate a PDF by superposing two glyphs that create a third one (e.g. e+´=é) or that generate direct vector or bitmap objects for non-ascii characters.
