Hi, I really don't have any help to offer, I just want to say I'm bitten by the same problem. I also seem to have a similar setup as the submitter, with nss-ldap and ldaps://. Don't know if that has anything to do with it, though.
Funny thing: I used three days banging my head at the wall because of http://bugs.debian.org/299051 When the new package came out, I was like in heaven. And now I have used three more days on this issue, untill I came up with the bright idea looking at the bugs :P Sincerely hopes you'll find the cause of this bug.
