I have started gnumeric from a terminal, but didn't see the error messages noted
in the FAQ. The FAQ suggests to install gnumeric-doc which was already done.

You are right, the installation of the yelp package gives me access to the
help. Thanks.

The other menue items still don't work.

BROWSER isn't set, but sensible-browser http://www.heise.de starts Konqueror
and shows the content of the URL.
