Package: apt-listchanges
Severity: wishlist
Version: 2.72.5

apt-listchanges is great when installing security updates, but viewing the change logs is too verbose during distribution upgrades. While it is always possible to temporarily disable apt-listchanges, that approach would be less convenient.

I suggest the addition of an option which will present a prompt before showing the changes.

See change logs? [Y/n]

Also, I can see some merit in related bug 142864, which suggests having an option to mail change logs after showing them, but I'd incorporate the choice with the above prompt shown before the logs are seen:

See change logs? [Y/n/mail]

So the user could optionally review the verbose logs later via email.

Good suggestion, but my use of apt/aptitude is via ssh, so I use the text frontend with apt-listchanges.

Perhaps using the pager frontend would offer the same functionality (in terms of being able to abort), and as suggested in that ticket, mailing the logs could be accomplished by piping to mail from within the pager. But en explicit choice at a prompt is more user friendly.
