OK, that's it, probably:

*** Short version:
After a dist-upgrade (please scroll down to see a list of packages
concerned) minutes ago the problem seems being gone. No Seg faults. No
sendmail crashes. Sendmail 8.14.1-4 seems to work fine.

If you think this is right you might want to close the bug. I leave
that up to you.

*** Long version:
The situation being cleared I suspect 2 causes for the previous crash:

*** 1
A package that has been upgraded today simply was so damaged by some
machine crash in the past that a reinstall of it helped getting
8.14.1-4 running. Ugly crashes on this machine happened. Not often,
but if they do then even time occasionally is screwed to something
like 1904 or so .. I'm on an Macintosh machine, and IINM this sort of
crash is specific to at least this sort of hard ware.

*** 2
I see libc6 has been upgraded.

#1 was one reason, IIRC, why I waited some time to report the sendmail
'bug", simply because I hoped an upgrade (that is, some sort of
reinstall) of another package might get things getting fixed.

Here are some relevant files being present now while 8.14.1-4 is
running - AFAIKS: successfully:

/etc/mail/service.switch:
--------------------------------
# /etc/mail/nsswitch.conf
#
# This is the format that sendmail expects (no colon after the service)
#
passwd files
hosts files dns
aliases files

---------------------------------

/etc/nsswitch:
------------------------
# /etc/nsswitch.conf
#
# Example configuration of GNU Name Service Switch functionality.
# If you have the `glibc-doc' and `info' packages installed, try:
# `info libc "Name Service Switch"' for information about this file.
