According to <http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_name=466466A8.30008%40kpnplanet.nl> the rt2x00 drivers will work with a standard kernel as of Linux 2.6.22-rc1, because that includes the mac80211 stack which rt2x00 uses. The rt2x00 drivers have still not been included in the standard kernel.
