I was not using a Debian(-based) system when this bug was reported. However, again being the happy user of such a system, I am now able to reproduce this. This is indeed very strange and something I hope to dig into in the near future. Note however that a newer tig version is available (0.7) and that I am not able to reproduce this behavior on my system with a newer version.
