Package: pidgin Version: 2.0.1-1 Severity: normal I use the Jabber (XMPP) and AIM capabilities of pidgin regularly. Also, since I don't like storing my password on disk, I opt to manually enter both of them whenever I connect.
I find that when I mistype my AIM password, pidgin disables my account and I must click the error thingie that shows up at the bottom of the window to re-enable the account. This is very annoying in situations where I mistype my password multiple times consecutively. Furthermore, with XMPP, the problem is even worse. When I hit the button to re-enable my XMPP account, pidgin apparently tries to reconnect _with the same password_. Thus, to retype my password, I have to go to the Account dialog, modify the XMPP account, clear the password box in that dialog, and hit save. As you can imagine, this is infuriating in the instances when I mistype my password more than once. Earlier versions of GAIM (1.4? 1.5?) handled my situation properly. Namely, when the password is typed manually (rather than saved), and results in an authentication error, pidgin should immediately ask the user to re-enter the password for the account. There is absolutely no reason to disable the account in this situation. --xsdg -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.19.1 (PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages pidgin depends on: ii libavahi-compat-howl0 0.6.15-2 Avahi Howl compatibility library ii libc6 2.5-7 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.4.6-1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdbus-1-3 1.0.1-2 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.73-2 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libfontconfig1 2.4.1-2 generic font configuration library ii libgstreamer0.10-0 0.10.12-5 Core GStreamer libraries and eleme ii libgtk2.0-0 2.10.12-2 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libgtkspell0 2.0.10-3 a spell-checking addon for GTK's T ii libice6 1:1.0.1-2 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libncursesw5 5.5-1 Shared libraries for terminal hand ii libnspr4-0d 4.6.6-3 NetScape Portable Runtime Library ii libnss3-0d 3.11.5-3 Network Security Service libraries ii libpango1.0-0 1.16.4-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libperl5.8 5.8.8-6 Shared Perl library ii libsasl2-2 2.1.22.dfsg1-5 Authentication abstraction library ii libsasl2-modules 2.1.22.dfsg1-5 Pluggable Authentication Modules f ii libsm6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System Session Management ii libstartup-notification0 0.8-1 library for program launch feedbac ii libx11-6 2:1.0.0-6 X11 client-side library ii libxcursor1 1.1.5.2-5 X cursor management library ii libxext6 1:1.0.0-4 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxfixes3 1:4.0.1-4 X11 miscellaneous 'fixes' extensio ii libxi6 1:1.0.0-5 X11 Input extension library ii libxinerama1 1:1.0.1-4 X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxml2 2.6.28.dfsg-1 GNOME XML library ii libxrandr2 2:1.2.1-1 X11 RandR extension library ii libxrender1 1:0.9.0.2-4 X Rendering Extension client libra ii libxss1 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 X Screen Saver client-side library ii pidgin-data 2.0.1-1 multi-protocol instant messaging c Versions of packages pidgin recommends: ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-base 0.10.12-2 GStreamer plugins from the "base" ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-good 0.10.5-5 GStreamer plugins from the "good" pn python-dbus <none> (no description available) -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
