Hi, Joseph, I am not sure about your savage problem, this driver might need to be updated for Xserver 1.3 (and I don't think 2.1.2-5 currently in unstable will help) or the server might need some fixes (it breaks other drivers such as Vesa because of wrong VBE mode scanning IIRC).
