Package: Scribus Version: in my case 1.2.5 but also reported for other versions
Package: Qt Version: 3.3.7 Debian version: 4.0 Etch (stable) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ From: "Francesc Dorca i Badia" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Mon, 21 May 2007 23:36:10 +0200 Subject: Bug in Scribus on Debian ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Dear Debian people, Now on my laptop I use Debian Etch and Ubuntu Feisty (also Debian based). I found a very disturbing problem in Scribus that makes the program not usable on languages with diacritic marks (accents, umlauts...). Therefore I cannot use Scribus in Catalan, Spanish, French or German. The problem occurs in both, Debian Etch as well as in Ubuntu Feisty. Usually, when you use a Spanish keyboard, the special characters that contain accents or umlauts are composed typing first the accent (nothing will be shown on the screen) and then a vowel (the screen shows then the character with the accent). For example, for typing the character "รก" you will type " ' " and then "a". This works so in GNOME or OpenOffice.org, but doesn't work properly with Scribus. I have already sent a bug report to Scribus. My report was closed and appended to a previous report. Scribus also didn't work properly for writing Greek. I've read that this is not a Scribus bug, but a bug related to a special patched Qt-library used by Debian. Scribus seems to work properly under other GNU/Linux distributions ( e.g. Gentoo). What a pitty!! I thought that it would just be a Scribus config problem, but it seems to be more complicated. I hope that an easy fix for this bug can be found, because I really do like to use Scribus, which is a fine free software masterpiece. Best regards, Francesc Dorca
