I can't confirm this behaviour. If I follow the steps you describe, I
get the prompt of kscreensaver after resume and I'm able to login after
typing my password, just as expected. I also never heard of such
behaviour before.

I very much doubt, that kpowersave is killing your session. Have you
made any special configurations in kpowersave, like executing commands
on ac changes via the knotify framework or something like this?

Maybe it is another package, like acpi-support, which acts on ac
changes. So I'd suggest to investigate if it helps to uninstall that
package and if you have any scripts in /etc/acpi which could be
responsible for that.

If this is not the case, have you checked, if kscreensaver is installed
or if it helps to use other mechanisms, like xlock or xscreensaver
(given you have them installed).
