This is the point where I should point out that I am not a sysadmin. (I *have* been using X since the early '90s, so I can work out how to use startx manually, though.) Consequently, it'll be worth going into slightly more detail when asking me for more information, so I know what to do to discover the answers you need. Relevant command-lines should suffice. I'm guessing that if I run dpkg-reconfigure on the xserver package, it'll ask me to select a driver and I can change from vesa to i810. However, I've no idea how to find out whether I'm using an fb console. I have six virtual consoles and an X session, accessible by Alt+F[1-7], with help from Ctrl if coming from the X session. Please suggest a command that'll reveal whether I have an fb console. > This is weird... ah. Well, let's see where it goes ...
