Thanks for that, it makes sense. I setup as suggested with uswsusp installed and ran hibernate-ram and it suspended without a problem. The resume still has the black screen. I tried to ctrl-alt-del at this point with the black screen and it would seem to reboot but the screen did not start up at all. Is it possible that only a cold reset kicks the screen alive again? I am just guessing as I have no visual reference, but that is how it looks.
