I wonder what this NVIDIA thing is doing here. Did you have nvidia
binary drivers installed in this machine? They might not be completely
uninstalled then. Please check.

RandRRotation looks like an nVidia option.

Does it work if you set 1024x768 instead of 768x1024?
Does Rotate CW work instead of CCW?
