I thought that initially, but then found evidence to the contrary - look in LocalMbox.pm , searching will show that it's concerned with "new" and "cur" subdirectories in mailboxes, which are a sign of maildir format. I've not seen it create folders containing 'new' or 'cur', only the flat directory structure of MH, so I suspect that it does in fact support other formats, but stays stuck on MH.
