Would you mind reporting all this on bugzilla.freedesktop.org product Xorg component Driver/Intel? You'll have to attach xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log, and you should probably summarize all what we've said here (especially that Virtual 1024 768 is only here because the driver chooses an unsupported resolution) and insert the URL of this bug for reference.
