Obvious error message, as you said yourself.

Why? The default is DATE=original. And libtimedate-perl is in Suggests:.
Maybe that should be a Recommends: then? Why depending on something
which is not needed with the default config?

OTOH, libtimedate-perl is sufficiently small compares to the TeX
stuff.. Will think about it...
