This bug is found in Debian Etch (stable version) with aptitude 0.4.4 too!
I try apt-get update, and the same error still occour.
I see this error in this mail-list too:

Remove /var/cache/apt/*.bin don't solve my problem (Segmentation Fault)
and I delete folder "archive" too (my error!), and now I receive one
more error message ("archive folder don't found").
